In a futuristic America, a boy and a girl from each of twelve provinces are chosen lottery style each year to participate in the Hunger Games, a televised reality show where only one will emerge alive to earn wealth and extra food for their province. When 17-year-old Katniss Everdeen's little sister is selected, Katniss volunteers to go in her place. Will she survive?
I really enjoyed reading The Hunger Games because the plot was very good, the characters were realistic, and they weren’t flat, they expressed lots of emotion, and handled situations in a realistic way. I can connect this to my life because Peeta did what he could to help and protect Katniss, and I would do the same for someone I loved. The characters were very realistic, because they responded to the environment they were in a realistic way, like when Katniss was in an arid location, and she had to search for water and food, looking for other character’s food supplies, and some of the other characters planted explosives around their food and water to protect them. In the sequel to the book, I know that the Capitol is angry with them because there was supposed to be only one survivor to the Hunger Games, and Katniss and Peeta were going to die together to get back at the Capitol. I think the Capitol will try to bring their love to the test and see if it was an act, or for real. (V.B., 10th Grade, ATC)
ReplyDeleteThe Hunger Games is a great book that will leave you wanting more. Author Suzanne Collins has written an amazing book that is filled with excitement and twists. The book plays out like a roman gladiator scene where combatants are selected from districts and sent to fight in an arena to the death. The setting for most of the book is inside of an arena where the leaders can control everything that happens to the combatants inside. The main character Katniss acts realistically enough for a teenager fighting to survive in her world. The author also conveys the mood very well by including gory details about what happens during the fighting. The story leaves you guessing the whole time and leaves you wanting more from the next one. What will happen now that Katniss made it out of the arena? Or how her life is going to change based on everything that has happened to her? – EZ Grade10 ATC
